The government’s plan to develop a technology-based and innovation-based economy requires assistance in licensing foreign workers who have these skills. This is done so that they can stay longer in Indonesia.
“From the president’s state speech, we focus on economic development based on technology and innovation, so people who get a 5-year visa and passport for that person are being processed, there is no need to ask for permission any longer. Especially focus on people who have the skills we need,” said Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan at the Apindo National Coordination Meeting, Tuesday (August 24, 2021).
Quoted from cnbcindonesia.com, previously the government wanted to issue visas for foreigners for 5 years, but due to the Covid-19 wave which is still not conducive, this plan is still being studied.
This 5-year visa policy is in line with the ‘Work from Bali’ program which allows foreign workers to work in Bali for a longer time.
