The capital of Japan, Tokyo, has again recorded a spike in corona virus cases since August 20, 2020. Tokyo recorded 284 new cases of COVID-19 infection on Thursday (15/10/2020), bringing the cumulative number to 28,420 corona cases.

Tokyo Governor, Yuriko Koike reminded her citizens to remain vigilant amidst this pandemic that has yet to end.

“We need further vigilance over this issue,” said Yuriko Koike, quoted by CNN International, Friday (16/1/20).

The government said that the people’s desire to return to normal life has also contributed to the increase in corona cases in Japan.

“The public’s desire to return to normal life by activating community movement is one that results in expanding the infection cluster,” explained the government.

In July, the Tokyo City Government declared an emergency status of level four or the highest for corona cases. This is due to additional cases of corona virus infection.

This level of four alerts indicates that ‘the infection has spread’. In addition, residents in Tokyo have also been urged not to travel within the prefectural borders to prevent transmission to other regions.
