5 Tourism Villages in Bali You Must Visit, Which One?

Balinese culture often attracts the attention of tourists because it is still thick and has not been eroded by modern times.

1. Penglipuran Village

Penglipuran Village which contains the Balinese Mula community is located in Kubu Village, Bangli Regency. Precisely on the plateau around the foot of Mount Batur. When setting foot there, tourists will feel the calm and beautiful atmosphere of the village whose name comes from “Pengeling Pura”. Hence it is a holy place to remember the ancestors. Not only is the air cool, the shape of the buildings of each house that is uniform and connected through the hallway attracts people’s attention.

This indicates that the people there live side by side in harmony. If you visit there, tourists can learn about customary rules, unique traditions, and many ritual events including Galungan. One of the customary rules that applies there is a prohibition for men to have more than one wife. If they violate, they will be excommunicated in a place called Karang Memadu. If you want to learn more about other customary rules, you can stay at a number of homestays that have been provided while enjoying Balinese snacks called Sueg which are made from tubers.

To enter the Penglipuran Village area, tourists must put two-wheeled or four-wheeled vehicles in the provided parking lot.

2. Tigawasa Village

The village of the Bali Mula community is located in Banjar District, Buleleng Regency. It is located at an altitude of about 500-700 meters above sea level (masl). When visiting there, tourists can see a lot of beautiful plantations and rice fields. You can enjoy the view while enjoying the cool air in Kubu Alam.

Batur Kubu Alam is a shelter for people who cross the route of Tigawasa Village from Denpasar-Singaraja and vice versa. Visitors can enjoy robusta coffee picked directly from the gardens of local farmers while looking at the view of the hills from a viewing post made of bamboo. One of the unique traditions of Tigawasa Village is the absence of burning corpses in the Ngaben Ceremony. The corpse will be buried and wrapped in a batik cloth. While visiting, don’t forget to buy woven bamboo crafts in the form of sokasi and bedeg. “Tourists can see the activities of local people who are still guided by the customs that have been in effect from the past, not too much contaminated by digital,” said Nyoman.

3. Sidatapa Village

Sidatapa Village is also one of the old villages in Banjar District, Buleleng Regency. This village is located at an altitude of about 450 masl. Besides being able to learn about local history and culture, tourists can see an ancient traditional house called Bale Gajah Tumpang Salu which has been around since around 785 AD. The house is quite unique because the building has its back to the road, the walls are made of soil, and the 12 supporting poles use wood.

Bale Gajah Tumpang Salu has several parts in it, called Tri Mandala, which have their own functions such as for daily activities or a place to pray. While there, tourists can also buy woven bamboo crafts, and see the typical dances and rituals of Sidatapa Village. There is also a Mampah Waterfall tourist spot which is located about 2 km from the village. The waterfall is located in the middle of a forest and is surrounded by beautiful trees. Not only tourists can learn about the history, rituals and customs of Sidatapa Village, they can also do nature tourism while there.

4. Cempaga Village

Cempaga Village in Banjar District, Buleleng Regency is one of the old villages that has a history, culture, traditions, and sacred dances. Some of the dances that can be seen there are the jangkang dance, the line dance, the pendet dance, and the rejang dance. Usually, a sacred dance will be performed at the Cempaga Village Temple.

Tourists can see it when visiting there at certain times. Furthermore, there is also a Mecacar Ceremony which is held at the temple at around 01:00 WITA at the Galungan Ceremony, Kuningan Ceremony, and Karya Agung Muayon. Cempaga Village has a beautiful and clean nature. The air is cool because the village is located on a highland. While enjoying the view, you can visit the Sunset Hill Restaurant which is managed by the Cempaga Village-Owned Enterprise (Bumdes). “Tigawasa Village, Sidatapa Village, and Cempaga Village are three areas which constitute Bali Mula. 5. Tenganan Village

Tenganan Village is located in Manggis District, Karangasem Regency. This village still maintains the houses and customs that have existed since time immemorial. This is because the village community has very strong customary rules called awig-awig. These traditional rules have existed since the 11th century, and were updated in 1842. However, before they can enter there, tourists do not buy tickets but donate freely.

Tenganan Village environment is still very well preserved. Many rice fields and plants still look beautiful. The residents’ buffaloes roam freely in the yard. While studying history, culture, customs, enjoying the beauty of traditional houses and the nuances of its calm environment, you can visit a gift shop that sells many Tenganan village crafts.

The shop sells various types of handicrafts ranging from woven bamboo, carvings, paintings carved on burnt palm leaves, and geringsing cloth. “Tenganan is very famous for its geringsing cloth,” said Nyoman. The fabrics that are only produced in Tenganan Village are made by hand. The long time it takes to make it and the colors that come from the plants make it a souvenir that must be brought home.
