Airport Tax Rates Rise, What Causes It?

Aircraft Passenger Services (PJP2U) or airport tax rates have increased significantly. Many people regret this. In response, PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero) or AP I explained the reasons for the airport tax rates increase at several airports.

VP Corporate Secretary AP I Rahadian D. Yogisworo confirmed that there was an adjustment to the Airline Passenger Service (PJP2U) or Passenger Service Charge (PSC) tariff at the 13 airports managed.

“This PJP2U tariff adjustment is a reflection of efforts to improve services to airport service users,” he said, Monday (18/7/2022).

He said the company had carried out developments at the airport to increase the capacity and quality of service at the airport, most of which were completed during the pandemic.

Rahadian added that the new tariff adjustment was carried out at this time due to the cost burden that must be borne by the company to increase the capacity and quality of airport services, as well as to ensure we can continue to provide the best service in the future after the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to him, this increase is also a natural thing because basically, the PJP2U/Passenger Service Charge rate adjustment is an investment to improve services that have been carried out one or two years earlier.

As for domestic and international PJP2U tariff adjustments as of June 24, 2022, it is at El Tari Kupang Airport (KOE) and Ambon Pattimura Airport (AMQ).

Manado’s Sam Ratulangi Airport (MDC) and Lombok’s Zainuddin Abdul Majid Airport (LOP) made adjustments to domestic and international PJP2U rates, while Juanda Airport Surabaya (SUB), SAMS Sepinggan Airport Balikpapan (BPN), Sultan Hasanuddin Airport Makassar (UPG), Airport General Ahmad Yani Semarang (SRG), Adi Soemarmo Airport Surakarta (SOC), Adisutjipto Airport Yogyakarta (JOG), Syamsudin Noor Airport Banjarmasin (BDJ), Frans Kaisiepo Airport Biak (BIK).

Meanwhile, Sentani Jayapura Airport (DJJ), which is undergoing adjustments for domestic PJP2U, will start to increase on July 16, 2022.

Furthermore, several parties regretted the tax increase. Chairman of the Indonesian Aviation Services Association, Alvin Lie said this will increase the cost of flights.

“PJP2u or airport tax has increased, the biggest increase is at airports in eastern Indonesia,” said this former Ombudsman Member in Profit, CNBC Indonesia, quoted Monday (18/7/2022).

Alvin said the biggest increase was reported at Biak airport, to Rp 66 thousand from Rp 30 thousand per ticket. Meanwhile, in Lombok Praya, it rose to Rp. 106 thousand from Rp. 60 thousand.
“Kupang Airport increased from Rp 45 thousand to Rp 70 thousand, Jayapura rose to Rp 95 thousand from Rp 55 thousand,” he said.

On the other hand, airlines are proposing to the government to increase tariffs. Therefore, Alvin suggested that the increase in airport tax rates could be controlled by the government, such by delaying its implementation.

“This is a burden on consumers. Whereas previously it could be controlled by the government, it should not be enforced first or be borne by the government for now so it does not burden consumers,” said Alvin.
