Cardless Toll Payment Trial Will Be Implemented Soon

A trial of paying tolls without a card will be implemented soon. This cardless payment will prevent long queues at toll road entrances. The Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) stated that the multi-lane free-flow (MLFF) trial will be implemented on five toll road sections by the end of 2022.

This was also confirmed by the Head of BPJT Danang Parikesit. He said that his party was preparing one lane without a gate or toll booth on the JORR S Toll Road, Jagorawi Toll Road.

“The (cardless payment) trial starts at JORR S, in Jagorawi, later on in Samarinda-Balikpapan in several more sections, the first stage may be 5-6 segments, once the gentry is installed, we will immediately test it,” said Danang when met by Gedung Nusantara DPR, Thursday (25/8/2022).

Danang said that for every toll road section that will start the MLFF trial, there will be 1 gentry, so there are still gates that still accept card transactions.

Later, the application can accept all forms of payment, from digital wallets, to credit cards, and can also be connected directly to the user’s bank account.

“We have been asked by BI that the e-wallet cannot be exclusive. So all the source of funds must be able to be used,” he explained.

On the other hand, BPJT is encouraging the Police to issue regulations to prevent violations in the implementation of MLFF.

“Right now we are just discussing it with the Police, including our plan to encourage Korlantas friends, there has been an initial discussion and the police will make regulations,” said Danang.

Furthermore, Danang explained, that at the cardless payment trial stage, which will be carried out starting in December 2022, it is still free of charge. The condition is that the community already has the Cantas application. The application will later support toll transactions carried out.

“For the first time, it’s not commercialized, people can be trained by checking themselves from the entry gate point to the exit gate, how many kilometers long, and how much to pay (using an application),” said Danang, Thursday (25/8/2022).

Danang explained that the first phase is likely to be carried out on 5 toll roads spread not only on the island of Java. At several gates at the toll gate, only 1 gate will be applied at the trial stage.

“We will start with one (gate) first, be tested so that people can apply Cantas, then later while being familiar with the time it will be operated commercially,” he continued.
