The Immigration Office at Ngurah Rai in Bali is undergoing a comprehensive overhaul of its services in a concerted effort to eliminate corrupt practices and provide enhanced services to the public. This strategic initiative comes in the aftermath of a recent anti-corruption operation conducted by the Bali High Prosecutor’s Office, which identified certain local employees as suspects involved in corrupt activities.

Expressing a deep commitment to proactive measures for sustained improvement, Suhendra, the Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office in Denpasar, conveyed his dedication to delivering superior services to the community.

He issued a formal apology to all concerned parties and the residents of Bali, acknowledging the impact of the corruption case on Bali’s reputation, including Ngurah Rai International Airport, quoted from Antara.

“We are fully committed to taking comprehensive and sustainable measures to improve our services in the future, aiming to provide the best service to the community,” stated Suhendra, emphasizing the gravity of the situation and the resolve to rectify it.

The ongoing transformation includes the swift installation of autogates, or automated immigration services, at the Ngurah Rai Airport Immigration Checkpoint, with a targeted completion by the end of December 2023. An additional 50 autogate units are projected to be operational in the first quarter of 2024, contributing to a more streamlined and efficient immigration process.

As part of the multifaceted improvements, there will be a transition from the traditional manual Visa on Arrival (VoA) process to an electronic VoA facilitated by the Molina application, a digital payment platform. This transition aims to enhance efficiency and reduce the likelihood of irregularities in the immigration process.

The expansion of autogate usage is also a significant facet of the ongoing improvements. This expansion seeks to ensure that all passengers undergo immigration checks seamlessly and expeditiously without the need for direct interaction with immigration officers.

Ngurah Rai Immigration is additionally instituting a dedicated control room within the international arrival area. This control room is designed to monitor and manage passenger traffic comprehensively in both the arrival and departure terminals, contributing to an overall enhancement of security and operational efficiency.

“With these measures, all passengers will be required to use autogates for immigration checks, ensuring a fast and accurate process without the need for additional expedited services,” added Suhendra, underscoring the commitment to a more robust and transparent immigration system.

Despite the spatial constraints within the immigration check area, Suhendra urged collaboration among various airport stakeholders to collectively uphold the sterility of the immigration area. This collaborative effort aims to prevent any potential misconduct or irregularities by unauthorized parties, ensuring the integrity of the immigration process.

This proactive approach by Ngurah Rai Immigration signifies a significant step toward restoring public trust and elevating the standard of immigration services in Bali. The commitment to transparency, efficiency, and integrity underscores the gravity of the situation and the determination to establish a resilient and accountable immigration system.
