Over the past week, Indonesia has experienced a significant surge in Covid-19 cases, with some regions reporting an increase in cases. As a result, the government has asked the public in several areas, including Jawa Timur, to remain vigilant against this threat.

In response to this situation, Jawa Timur Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa has called on the public to be aware of the increase in Covid-19 cases in the province. According to Khofifah, as of Monday, April 24, there were an additional 119 new cases.

“Yesterday, there were 119 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed in Jatim,” Khofifah said on Tuesday (25/4/2023).

The increase has brought the current active positive Covid-19 cases in Jatim to 697. Meanwhile, the cumulative Covid-19 cases in Jatim since 2020 have reached 641,307.

This daily increase in positive cases is also the highest since April 12, 2023, with the previous daily increase only 30-50 per day.

Looking at the assessment of the Covid-19 Pandemic situation in Indonesia as of April 24, 2023, the positivity rate in Jatim reached 10.32 percent, exceeding the WHO threshold of 5 percent.

“This should be a note of caution for all of us,” she said.

Despite this, the bed occupancy rate (BOR) in Jatim hospitals is still at an adequate level of 6.29 percent, from March 30 to April 19, 2023.

In addition, she also stated that there were 125 new recoveries in Jatim as of April 24, 2023, bringing the total number of recoveries in Jatim to 608,239. Meanwhile, there was one additional death, bringing the cumulative total to 32,381.

Apart from reminding people to be vigilant, Khofifah also revealed that two new sub-variants of Covid-19 known as Arcturus were detected in Jatim. However, she asked her residents not to panic.

“In addition, it is reported that there are two Arcturus variants found in Jatim. Nevertheless, I hope everyone remains calm, as most of the new cases have mild symptoms after receiving booster shots,” she said.

The surge in Covid-19 cases in Jawa Timur is a cause for concern, and it is important for everyone to take necessary precautions to avoid further spread of the virus. The government and health authorities are continuously monitoring the situation and taking necessary measures to control the spread of the virus.

The public is urged to comply with health protocols, including wearing masks, washing hands regularly, and practicing physical distancing, to help curb the spread of the virus. It is also recommended to get vaccinated and to follow guidelines and recommendations from health authorities to protect oneself and others from Covid-19.
