Earthquakes with a Magnitude above 4 Struck 6 Regions

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) today (28/12) recorded a series of earthquakes with a magnitude above 4 shaking several parts of Indonesia.

BMKG reported that these earthquakes occurred in several locations and had started since early morning.

The first report was a 4.1 magnitude earthquake in West Java at 01:45:52 WIB. The epicenter of the earthquake was 34 km Southwest of Pangandaran Regency with a depth of 17 km.

Shortly after the report was tweeted on the official BMKG Twitter account, @infoBMKG, there was an update regarding the Pangandaran earthquake.

This time, the BMKG reported a magnitude 4.5 earthquake with a depth of 25 km at 01:45:45 WIB. The epicenter was in the sea, 82 km southwest of Pangandaran.

Apart from Pangandaran, the BMKG also reported that a magnitude 4.1 earthquake occurred in North Sumatra at 02:58:01 WIB. The location of the earthquake was 41 km southeast of Mandailing Natal with a depth of 116 km.

Furthermore, there was an earthquake measuring M 4.6 in East Nusa Tenggara at 03:34:03 WIB. The epicenter of the earthquake was 51 km northeast of Labuan Bajo with a depth of 172 km.

In addition, the BMKG also reported an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 in Papua at 04:10:02 WIB. The epicenter was 17 km northeast of Sarmi with a depth of 22 km.

Another earthquake occurred again in eastern Indonesia. BMKG reported a magnitude 4.8 earthquake in Maluku at 04:45:51 WIB. The location of the earthquake was 145 km southeast of Central Maluku with a depth of 148 km.

BMKG also reported an earthquake measuring M 4.4 in Southeast Sulawesi at 05:49:19 WIB. The epicenter of the earthquake was 208 Northeast Wakatobi with a depth of 473 km.

BMKG appealed to residents to remain calm but alert if at any time aftershocks occur.
