Electronic Tickets on Toll Roads Take Effect Today, Low Speed Vehicles Can Also Be Sanctioned!

The new technology is starting to be applied on toll roads. This time, the government has started to apply electronic ticketing along toll roads.

Electronic ticketing on the toll road is not only for high speeds, but also applies to low speeds. Based on applicable regulations, a vehicle traveling below a speed of 60 kilometers (km) per hour can be fined Rp. 500,000.

The imposition of fines on vehicles traveling below 60 kilometers per hour is following the minimum limit for driving speed on expressways or toll roads as regulated in Law (UU) No.22/2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation (LLAJ). Article 21 paragraph 4 stipulates that the lowest speed limit on toll roads is 60 km/hour in free-flow conditions.

Driving speed is also regulated in Government Regulation (PP) No.79/2013 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation Networks. Article 23 paragraph 4 stipulates that the speed limit for driving is 60 kilometers per hour in free-flow conditions and the highest is 100 kilometers per hour for expressways or toll roads.

Meanwhile, sanctions in the form of fines for vehicle drivers who violate the rules of the highest or lowest speed limit, namely with a maximum fine of Rp. 500,000 or maximum imprisonment of two months. This is regulated in Law no. 22/2009 on LLAJ, article 287 paragraph 5.

“Everyone who drives a motorized vehicle on the road violating the rules for the highest or lowest speed limit shall be punished with imprisonment for a maximum of 2 months or a fine of a maximum of Rp. 500,000,” as written in the regulation.

Traffic Director of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Pol Sambodo Purnomo Yogo confirmed that drivers of four-wheeled vehicles violating the speed limit will be sentenced to a maximum imprisonment of two months or a maximum fine of Rp. 500,000.

Later, vehicles that exceed the speed limit on toll roads will be captured through the installed smart camera and will be sent to the back office of the Korlantas Polri through the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (e-TLE) system, starting tomorrow, Friday (1/4/2022).

Polda Metro Jaya said that they would ticket cars using inner-city toll roads whose speed exceeds 100 kilometers per hour. Sambodo said that his party had prepared speed measuring devices and ETLE cameras along the inner-city toll roads to monitor car users.

According to Sambodo, if a car is detected carrying a vehicle exceeding the specified speed, the e-TLE camera will record and block the vehicle’s documents.
