FIBA Asia Cup 2021 in Jakarta Postponed Until Next Year

The pandemic not only affects the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The FIBA ​​Asia Cup 2021 has also been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic situation in Indonesia. The basketball championship, which was previously planned to be held from August 17 to 29, 2021, had to be postponed until next year.

Initially, the event will be held from August 3 to 15 and then moved to August 17 to 29. Now the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has decided to postpone this event to 2022.

In its official statement, FIBA ​​stated that this event has been rescheduled to July 2022. Indonesia will continue to hosts the FIBA ​​Asia Cup 2021, and Jakarta being the host city.

FIBA has considered various aspects such as travel restrictions, participant welfare, fan access and experience, and destination to ensure the highest quality of events.

As many as 13 teams have qualified for the FIBA ​​Asia Cup 2021. While the remaining three slots will be determined through two tournaments, that will be held in August 2021.

FIBA also confirmed that the FIBA ​​Asia Cup Women 2021 event would still be held as previously planned from 27 September to 3 October 2021 in Amman, Jordan.
