Flight Delays During the Mandalika MotoGP, Airport Manager Confirms It Will Not Be Occurred Again

The Mandalika MotoGP, which was held on March 18-19, brought great enthusiasm to the people of Indonesia and abroad. PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero) or AP I stated that there was a flight delay during the MotoGP event. Fortunately, no flights had to be canceled.

This was confirmed by VP Corporate Secretary AP I Handy Heryudhitiawan. He said that on the night of March 20, 2022, there was indeed a flight delay. Fortunately, however, none of the flights had to be canceled.

He ensured that airport managers and stakeholders at Lombok International Airport had worked optimally and professionally so that airport operations ran smoothly.

“We continue to ensure that the implementation of the health protocol is carried out as well as possible, starting from the passenger ticket inspection process, the check-in process, the passenger inspection process to the boarding process,” he said, Wednesday (23/3/2022).

Previously, Lombok International Airport managed by PT Angkasa Pura I experienced a significant spike in passenger and flight traffic during the week of the MotoGP event in Mandalika, March 15-21, 2022.

Lombok International Airport is recorded to serve up to 71,800 passengers with details of 41,500 arriving passengers and 30,300 departing passengers, or on average serving up to 10,300 passengers per day.

As for the flight traffic, Lombok International Airport was recorded to serve as many as 663 aircraft movements with details of 332 aircraft movements arriving & and 331 aircraft movements departing or on average serving up to 95 aircraft movements per day.

In fact, during the Covid-19 pandemic and before the MotoGP event in Mandalika, Lombok International Airport only served up to 3,500-4,000 passengers per day on average, with aircraft traffic reaching an average of 40 aircraft movements per day.

“If you look at the trend of passenger movement, the peak flow of arrivals will occur on March 18, 2022, where there are as many as 8,886 passengers who come to Lombok. Meanwhile, the peak of the departure flow occurred on March 21, 2022, when there were 11,010 passengers departing from Lombok International Airport. Overall flight operations during the week of the MotoGP at Mandalika ran safely, smoothly, and with zero accidents,” said Angkasa Pura I President Director Faik Fahmi.
