G20 Agenda Canceled in Bali Due to Rising Covid-19 Cases

G20 summit or meeting.

The Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) canceled one of the series of G20 financial track activities (finance track) in Bali. This is due to the COVID-19 case of the Omicron variant which continues to grow in the country.

Even so, the Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster ensured that the cancellation of the event was not due to the Omicron variant that appeared in Bali. He explained that no cases of Covid-19 variant B.1.1.529 or Omicron have been found on the Island of the Gods

Wayan Koster explained that the cancellation of one of the G20 agendas in Bali was not due to the emergence of the Omicron variant, but due to the consideration of the high risk of transmission of the new variant during the Jakarta-Bali transit.

“There is no Omicron (variant) in Bali yet, it’s still safe. We’ve done a sample test,” said Koster during a press conference at the Jayasabha Building in the Bali Governor’s Office Complex, Thursday (20/1/2022) night.

There were two activities that finally it was decided to move from Bali to Jakarta, namely the 2nd FCBD (Finance and Central Bank Deputy) and 1st FMCBG (Finance Minister Central Bank Governor) which was scheduled on 15-18 February 2022. The cancellation was stated in Letter Number S -3/G20.33/2022 which is very urgent

The transfer of the event from Bali to Jakarta only changed time with the planned implementation of the 2nd FMCBG in July 2022. The event, which was originally planned in Jakarta, will be shifted to Bali.

As stated by President Jokowi, Bali remains the main venue for holding a series of G20 meetings which began in December 2021.

In addition, updates on the development of the positive number of the Covid-19 virus in Bali are indeed increasing. The average daily case in Bali was recorded at 20 cases. However, all of these cases are not new variants of Omicron.

Keep healthy from the Covid-19 virus by always complying with health protocols, wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
