Government will ramp up COVID-19 vaccination campaign

President Joko Widodo promised to improve the COVID-19 vaccination campaign, including handling challenges in inoculating medical workers. The President said the government will overcome the challenges in carrying out the first phase of COVID-19 vaccinations and strive to reach its target.

The government is targeting to inoculate 181.5 million people. The first phase of the vaccination campaign kicked off on January 13, 2021, with health workers at the top of the list of shot receivers. But some experts have stated that there should be more people inoculated to reach herd immunity.

Presidential spokesperson Fadjroel Rachman affirmed that the second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are not only being rolled out at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta but also throughout the country.

The spokesperson remarked that the roll-out was conducted alongside the commencement of inoculations for 1.4 million health workers nationwide since they are at the vanguard of the fight against the global pandemic.

During the second vaccination, President Jokowi seizing the opportunity to make assurance and instill a sense of confidence among the Indonesian public that the COVID-19 vaccine is save and and pure in accordance with the Indonesian Ulema Council’s fatwa.
