Beware of Bad Weather! Light rain is predicted to still pour in some major cities in Indonesia today, Monday (27/3/2023). Several regions are even predicted to experience rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds.
The official website of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) conveyed this weather forecast. According to BMKG, thunderstorms are expected to hit Surabaya, Pangkal Pinang, Ambon, and Manado during the day. Meanwhile, a similar weather pattern is predicted to occur in Samarinda at night.
In addition, light rain with thunderstorms is also expected to fall in parts of DKI Jakarta today. BMKG issued a warning about the potential for rain with thunder and strong winds in the South Jakarta and East Jakarta regions today.
BMKG details that the weather in the morning throughout Jakarta is expected to be cloudy. Meanwhile, Jakarta Pusat, Jakarta Utara, and Kepulauan Seribu are expected to be cloudy during the day.
BMKG also reported the estimated temperature range for today at 22-33 degrees Celsius, with a humidity percentage of 60-100 percent.
Furthermore, rainy weather is expected to continue in Indonesia until early April 2023. BMKG stated that the dynamic atmospheric conditions during the transition period from the rainy season have already peaked in February.
“The large-scale weather control factors such as the Asian Monsoon wind have begun to weaken, but the Australian monsoon has not yet shown significant strengthening. This condition causes most of Indonesia’s weather to be influenced by local factors such as surface heating and topographic conditions,” BMKG said in a statement on Monday (27/3/2023).
Areas in South Sumatra, Kalimantan, Java Island, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara are predicted to experience such conditions during the period from 24 to 29 March. Hot weather is expected in the morning until noon, with moderate to heavy rain in the afternoon and evening. Meanwhile, the northern part of Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua still have the potential for heavy rain.
BMKG also revealed that atmospheric disturbances such as atmospheric wave activity are predicted to occur during the period from 30 March to 1 April, which can increase the supply of water vapor and the growth of rain clouds.
“This condition allows for an increase in the intensity of rain with a fairly long duration,” BMKG said. “Some areas predicted to experience an increase in the intensity of rain during this period are South Sumatra, Java Island, Kalimantan, West Nusa Tenggara, Central Sulawesi, and Papua,” it added.
