Indonesia is witnessing a significant acceleration in the implementation of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) project, led by the government’s steadfast commitment. Recent updates from the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) shed light on the impressive progress achieved in the first phase of the project, now standing at 74.87%.

Minister Basuki Hadimuljono of PUPR expressed satisfaction with the current pace of development, affirming that it remains in line with the government’s predetermined schedule and targets.

“We’re pleased to report that the construction progress for IKN is proceeding as planned,” stated Minister Basuki in an official statement released on Friday (23/2/2024).

He elaborated on the comprehensive efforts initiated since early September 2022, focusing on the establishment of essential infrastructure elements within the IKN premises. These include initiatives to enhance connectivity, ensure the provision of clean water, improve sanitation facilities, and establish governmental offices in the Core Central Government Area (KIPP).

Recognizing the pivotal role of foundational infrastructure and governmental facilities in fostering public trust and attracting investment, Minister Basuki highlighted recent groundbreaking ceremonies presided over by President Joko Widodo. These ceremonies marked the commencement of key projects, such as office complexes, healthcare facilities, and hospitality establishments.

Moreover, Danis H. Sumadilaga, the Head of the Task Force overseeing IKN infrastructure development, provided insights into the project’s phased approach. He outlined the division of development efforts into two distinct batches, extending until the conclusion of 2024.

According to Sumadilaga, the first batch comprises 40 ongoing work packages, boasting a commendable physical progress rate of 74.87% as of February 15, 2024. In parallel, the second batch encompasses an additional 49 work packages, demonstrating a progress rate of 24%.

The cumulative scope of work undertaken across both batches underscores the substantial financial commitment dedicated to the realization of the IKN vision, with allocated funds amounting to Rp68.57 trillion.

Looking ahead, Sumadilaga emphasized the prioritization of key infrastructure components essential for hosting national events, such as the August 17 Ceremony. Notable achievements in this regard include significant progress in the construction of the President’s Office Building, State Palace, and Ceremony Field.

In tandem with infrastructural developments, considerable strides have been made in enhancing accessibility to the IKN area through the construction of toll roads. Noteworthy milestones include progress in three key sections, namely Section 3A Karangjoang-KKT Kariangau, Section 3B KKT Kariangau-Simpang Tempadung, and Section 5A Simpang Tempadung-Jembatan Pulau Balang.

Sumadilaga also highlighted ongoing efforts to accommodate the residential needs of government officials and personnel, with plans underway for the construction of 47 residential towers. These endeavors are strategically timed to align with the upcoming August 17, 2024 Ceremony, with targeted completion and furnishing of 12 residential towers scheduled for July 2024.
