According to data from Startup Ranking and dataindonesia.id, Indonesia ranks sixth in the world with 2,492 startups as of May 10, 2023. The total number of startups in the world has now reached 144,688, with the United States leading the pack with 77,554 startups, followed by India with 17,209.
The United Kingdom and Canada have 7,046 and 3,902 startups, respectively, while Australia has 2,902. Germany has 2,423 startups, and France is in eighth place with 1,611 startups.
President Joko Widodo expressed his delight with Indonesia’s ranking, attributing it to the high internet penetration rate of 76.8% among the country’s population.
The President is optimistic that Indonesia’s startup scene will continue to grow and play a leading role in the Asian market. He believes that this will drive Indonesia’s digital economy to reach a value of US$130 billion by 2025 and US$315 billion by 2030.
