Indonesia is gearing up to host the 2024 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia (MotoGP) from September 27 to 29, and there’s an exciting twist that makes this year’s event stand out. Following the prestigious race, Indonesia will unveil the world’s very first MotoGP museum, a landmark that promises to be a must-visit for motor racing enthusiasts globally.
The groundbreaking announcement came from Ari Respati, President Director of the Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC). He shared that post the 2024 MotoGP event, Indonesia will house the world’s first MotoGP museum.
“We are collaborating with Dorna this year to establish a museum that will display MotoGP memorabilia,” said Ari.
He emphasized that this museum will not be a temporary exhibit but a permanent structure named the Pertamina MotoGP Experience Gallery. “This museum’s presence will set this year’s MotoGP apart from the previous editions,” he elaborated during the BUMN Performance event on September 17, 2024.
The museum will cover an impressive 400 square meters and is designed to preserve and showcase the rich history of MotoGP racing. According to InJourney Tourism Development (ITDC), the museum, located in the Mandalika area, has already reached 97 percent completion, indicating that it will be ready to welcome visitors shortly after the Grand Prix.
This year’s Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, Lombok, carries the theme “Spirit of Indonesia.” Ari explained that this theme aims to showcase Indonesia as a whole rather than focusing on just a few regions. The event will celebrate the nation’s diverse culture and heritage.
“We’re not just highlighting one or two areas but bringing more to the forefront,” Ari mentioned, noting that this inclusivity makes the event even more special.

The MotoGP event will also provide a significant boost to local businesses, particularly Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) from across the country. These businesses will have the opportunity to participate in the bazaar area, offering their products to a global audience. This initiative will provide them with much-needed exposure and potential business opportunities, contributing to the local economy.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, ITDC is also organizing a side event titled the “Spirit of Indonesia” festival. This festival will feature performances by top Indonesian artists and musicians over the course of the MotoGP event. Each day of the festival will feature a different lineup, promising an exciting experience for attendees.
On the first day, visitors can enjoy performances by Lombok Ethno Fusion and Pelita Groove. The second day will bring iconic bands like SLANK, Geisha, and Ada Band to the stage. The final day will feature performances by Gigi, Ghea Youbi, and DJ Yasmin.
The Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2024 is not just about high-speed racing; it’s about celebrating Indonesia’s spirit and culture on a global platform. With the addition of the world’s first MotoGP museum, this event promises to leave a lasting legacy, attracting racing fans and tourists for years to come.
