Indonesia is preparing to transition from a pandemic to an endemic. This transition can occur because the development of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia continues to slop. This means that the government can control the pandemic.
Some rules during the Covid-19 pandemic have also begun to be relaxed by the government. Among these easing is the abolition of antigen and PCR requirements for various activities such as domestic travel by airplane. Then the government also removed the quarantine policy for overseas travelers (PPLN) who had negative PCR results.
This policy is for people who have carried out complete vaccinations, namely doses of one, two, and three or boosters.
Several relaxation policies that have also been implemented include loosening the maximum passenger limit on various modes of public transportation and allowing the physical presence of spectators for sports matches.
The government has also lowered the PPKM level in several areas, including Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Tangerang-Bekasi (Jabodetabek), and allowed homecoming without conditions for the first time since Covid-19 emerged in Indonesia in March 2020.
“This applies to travelers who have received booster vaccinations,” the Ministry of Finance wrote in the KEM PPKF book quoted Friday (20/5/2022).
The latest policy that shows that Indonesia is ready to endemic comes from President Jokowi. He relaxed the policy on wearing masks. Especially in open areas that are not for the visitors.
“The government has decided to relax the policy on wearing masks,” said Jokowi.
In addition, the Government opens the opportunity to stop the policy of implementing level restrictions on community activities (PPKM), which has been in effect since August 2021.
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy said PPKM would be stopped if the development of Covid-19 cases was consistently controlled.
“If [the Covid-19 case] is under control, the PPKM period will continue,” Muhadjir said in his statement, Friday (20/5/2022).
If we look back, Indonesia has implemented a tightening of community activities since April 10, 2020, more than a month since the first case of Covid-19 was announced by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
At that time, the tightening of a policy called Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB), was different from the regional quarantine policy (lockdown) implemented by other countries in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Now, the Indonesian government has stated that it is ready to make the transition from pandemic to endemic in line with the development of Covid-19 cases in the country which is increasingly under control.
