Indonesia finally has a C-130J Super Hercules A-1399 aircraft from the United States (US). The arrival of this advanced aircraft was greeted directly by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Monday (3/6).

The advanced aircraft was directly handed over to Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto at Base Ops Lanud Halim Perdanakusuma, East Jakarta on Monday (3/6/2023).

Jokowi stated that the aircraft is one of a total of 5 units that will be brought in gradually until January 2024. Jokowi praised the sophistication of the Super Hercules.

“What we received this morning is a very advanced aircraft and I can confirm that if the troops using it are equipped with parachutes, it can carry 98, but if it’s just troops, it can carry 128,” said Jokowi.

Jokowi stated that this aircraft can be used for military and non-military operations such as post-natural disaster relief.

“It can reach all areas of Indonesia because the super Hercules can fly for 11 hours,” he explained.

Quoting a statement from the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU), the Super Hercules C-130J heavy transport aircraft ordered by TNI AU was flown from its factory, Lockheed Martin Aerospace, in Georgia, USA, on February 28, 2023.

The aircraft landed perfectly at Lanud Halim Perdanakusuma, Jakarta after a 34-hour flight.

The aircraft, made by Lokcheed Martin, USA, is the first of five government procurement aircraft for Indonesia through the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, as stipulated in a contract signed in August 2019.

Furthermore, Chief of Staff of the Air Force (Kasau) Marshal TNI Fadjar Prasetyo said that the Super Hercules aircraft is a source of pride for the Indonesian nation.

“This is not only the pride of the Indonesian Air Force but also the pride of the Indonesian nation. We all know that the Hercules aircraft has played a very important role in several operations, both military and non-war operations such as natural disasters. Whatever it is, we always rely on the Hercules,” said Fadjar at Halim Perdana Kusumah Airport, East Jakarta, on Wednesday (3/8/2023).

Fadjar said that Indonesia is a country that has been using the Hercules aircraft since 1960. He added that the presence of this aircraft is the first in Southeast Asia.

According to Fadjar, the C-130 J Super Hercules A-1339 aircraft has several advantages, one of which is a more efficient engine.

The aircraft, which was previously controlled by 8 people, now only requires 3 crew members, including the pilot and co-pilot.
