Indonesia is renowned for its exceptional natural beauty. Did you know that aside from being a popular tourist destination, Indonesia’s natural allure also captivates Hollywood film producers to use it as a shooting location?

In addition to the natural landscapes, these producers also utilize Indonesian architectural styles and culture as their shooting locations. Discover the following Indonesian tourist destinations that have been used as shooting locations for Hollywood films!

  • Borobudur Temple in Java Heat Film

Magelang is the city that was used as a shooting location for the Hollywood film Java Heat (2013), precisely in one of the Super Priority Destinations (DSP), Borobudur Temple, Magelang, Central Java.

The reason why Borobudur Temple was chosen as the shooting location for Java Heat is that the classic architecture of the temple is already well-known by international society as a UNESCO heritage site.

Interestingly, many local artists also took part in this film, including Ario Bayu, Atiqah Hasiholan, Tio Pakusadewo, and Rio Dewanto. Conor Allyn’s film also had the opportunity to be screened at various international film festivals.

  • Prambanan Temple in Beyond Skyline Film

One of the shooting locations for the film Beyond Skyline is located at Prambanan Temple, Yogyakarta. The reason is that Michael Mann (director) did not find a suitable location in Laos (the original setting of the film), so Prambanan Temple was chosen as the shooting location for this film.

Another reason is that Prambanan Temple has a magnificent architecture and natural ruins that are suitable for one of the scenes in the film.

Beyond Skyline also shot in Infinite Studio Batam, besides Yogyakarta.
For your information, Infinite Studio Batam is one of the competent and internationally standardized shooting facilities in Batam. From indoor, outdoor, creature room, to sound stage, all are available at this mega studio.

The film tells the story of Elizabeth Gilbert (played by Julia Roberts) traveling to several countries to find peace in life. One of the countries she visited was Indonesia. In Bali, Elizabeth found the “love” she had been searching for.

  • Jakarta and Bali in Blackhat Film

This Hollywood film was shot in Jakarta in 2015, starring Chris Hemsworth. Blackhat took several scenes in Indonesia, including Monas, Istiqlal Mosque, and Bali.

The reason why Istiqlal Mosque was chosen as the shooting location for Blackhat is that it shows the majority of Indonesian citizens are Muslims, and the mosque’s architecture is very magnificent and unique.

Furthermore, the film Blackhat also involved 5,000 local residents who took part in traditional ceremonies in Bali. The reason is that the director wanted to showcase Indonesia’s diverse traditions.
