Indonesia’s Top Non-Oil and Gas Export Destinations in February 2023 Revealed by BPS

Indonesia’s Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) has recorded the three largest non-oil and gas export destinations for Indonesia in February 2023, which are China, the United States (US), and Japan.

The total value of Indonesia’s exports to China was $5.04 billion, with a market share of 24.93%, while the value of exports to the US was $1.91 billion, with a market share of 9.46%, and to Japan was $1.74 billion, with a market share of 8.60%.

According to M. Habibullah, the Deputy of Production Statistics at BPS, the next largest export destination with the highest market share was India, with $1.61 billion or 7.98%, followed by Malaysia with $0.91 billion or 4.51%, Singapore with $0.81 billion or 4.02%, and South Korea with $0.71 billion or 3.52%.

“The market share of these top 10 countries accounts for 69.96% of Indonesia’s total non-oil and gas exports,” said Habibullah in a virtual BPS release on Wednesday (15/3/2023). Meanwhile, he reported that the total value of non-oil and gas exports to ASEAN countries was $3.97 billion, with a market share of 19.65%, and to the European Union was $1.25 billion, with a market share of 6.17%.

Habibullah also mentioned that the value of Indonesia’s exports in February 2023 was $21.40 billion, a 4.15% decrease compared to the previous month. This decrease was mainly due to a 20.26% drop in oil and gas exports and a 3% decrease in non-oil and gas exports. However, compared to the same period in 2022 and 2021, Indonesia’s exports in February 2023 still grew positively by 4.51% year on year.

Cumulatively, Indonesia’s export value from January to February 2023 reached $43.72 billion, up 10.28% compared to the same period in 2022. Meanwhile, non-oil and gas exports reached $41.05 billion, up 8.73%.

Based on the province of origin, Indonesia’s largest exports from January to February 2023 came from West Java with a value of $6.00 billion or 13.72%, followed by East Kalimantan with $5.10 billion or 11.67% and East Java with $3.83 billion or 8.75%.
