Jakarta Starts Passing the Peak of Omicron, Here’s the Latest News

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that DKI Jakarta is starting to pass the peak period of the Omicron variant.

This is revealed by looking at the data on the daily number of cases of Omicron transmission, which is increasingly showing a decline every day.

“The trend of cases in DKI Jakarta is showing signs of starting to pass its peak period, both daily cases, active cases, and hospitalizations are starting to decline,” Luhut said in a press conference quoted from the Setpres YouTube, Monday (14/2/2022).

This is also explained by an Epidemiologist from the University of Indonesia (UI) Pandu Riono who said that Jakarta have been indicated to have surpassed the peak of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 cases.

“Good news for the residents of Jakarta. The data indicate that it has passed the peak of the micron surge. We hope that it will continue to decline in the coming weeks,” said Pandu via Twitter account @drpriono1, Monday (14/2/2022).

Furthermore, Luhut explained that the condition of Covid-19 inpatients in all Java-Bali hospitals is monitored to be lower than during the Delta variant.

This condition is due to the condition of the availability of a Covid-19 referral hospital inpatient room that has not been fully opened. This causes the hospital occupancy rate or BOR to be still quite high.

“Today’s BOR does not reflect the maximum capacity. If the maximum capacity is used, the BOR seen will be much lower,” he said.

He added, “Java-Bali is currently 55,000 open with 21,000 filled. This means that the BOR is 39 percent. Meanwhile, if it is opened the maximum is 87,000 so the BOR is only 25 percent.”

On the other hand, according to Luhut, at the same time, West Java, DIY, and East Java experienced an increase in Covid-19 cases due to the Omicron variant.

However, Luhut asked the public not to judge the government as taking the current conditions lightly. “Don’t think that the government is taking it lightly. Just don’t be too afraid, but we also have to be careful,” said Luhut.

Keep your health from the spread of the Covid-19 virus and the omicron variant by always obeying health protocols, wearing masks, keeping your distance in crowds, and washing your hands.
