Jokowi Approves Transition to Endemic Phase in Indonesia: Announcement Expected Soon

Indonesia is toward endemic Covid-19

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has given his approval to the upcoming announcement of the transition process from the Covid-19 pandemic to an endemic phase in Indonesia. He stated that the decision is still undergoing a thorough review and will be finalized within the next 1-2 weeks.

Speaking at the inauguration of the National Coordination Meeting on Internal Government Oversight 2023, President Jokowi expressed his optimism regarding the declining trend of Covid-19 cases in the country.

“Insha Allah [this month]. We have already decided that Indonesia will enter the endemic phase, but the timing of the announcement will be carefully determined within the next one or two weeks,” he stated on Wednesday (14/6/2023).

President Jokowi emphasized the need for comprehensive analysis before making the official announcement, taking into account various factors and data related to the pandemic situation. He highlighted the importance of achieving community immunity or herd immunity through accelerated vaccination efforts and natural infections, which would result in a decrease in the number of hospitalizations and deaths.

“We will provide detailed information on the number of cases. For instance, just two days ago, there were only 217 new cases reported, with the number of active cases standing at around 10,200. Moreover, our vaccination coverage has surpassed 452 million doses, among other significant factors. Following our meeting yesterday, we have made the decision for Indonesia to transition into the endemic phase. However, we will take the necessary time in the next one or two weeks to ensure that the announcement is well-prepared,” added President Jokowi.

The government’s decision to consider the transition from pandemic to endemic reflects the positive developments in managing the Covid-19 situation in Indonesia. It signifies a shift towards a phase where the virus is expected to be more manageable, allowing for the gradual restoration of normalcy in various aspects of life, including economic and social activities.

The ongoing evaluation process takes into account the comprehensive analysis of available data, including the number of confirmed cases, hospitalizations, and vaccinations. The aim is to ensure that the decision is based on accurate and reliable information, providing the public with a clear understanding of the current situation and the government’s plans moving forward.

As the announcement of the transition to an endemic phase approaches, the government continues to emphasize the importance of remaining vigilant and adhering to health protocols. President Jokowi urges the public not to let their guard down and emphasizes the significance of ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of the virus.

The impending transition to an endemic phase reflects the collective determination and resilience of the Indonesian people in facing the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. It represents a milestone in the nation’s battle against the virus, marking a significant step towards a more stable and sustainable future.

In conclusion, President Jokowi’s confirmation of the upcoming announcement regarding the transition from the Covid-19 pandemic to an endemic phase in Indonesia demonstrates the government’s commitment to carefully evaluate the situation and make informed decisions based on the available data. The process ensures that the public is provided with accurate and timely information, allowing for a smooth transition towards a more manageable phase of the pandemic.
