Jokowi Ensures Covid-19 Is Still Under Control

The spread of Covid-19 in Indonesia has brought concern. This is due to the increasing number of cases that continue to occur. In response to this, the President of Indonesia delivered his statement.

Jokowi ensured that the recent Covid-19 spread increase could still be controlled. He conveyed this after inaugurating the Mangrove Rehabilitation Program at the Rumpin nursery, Bogor, West Java.

“The most important thing is that we stick to the positivity rate, that’s the handle,” said Jokowi, Friday (10/6/2022).

Jokowi said not without data. He made a conclusion based on the positivity rate set by WHO, which is 5%. Currently, the positive rate shows 1.03%. This means that the pandemic is still under control.

“So it’s still in a controlled position, even though we know I’ve asked you to watch out for a slight increase because yesterday the problem was three weeks or a month ago because we were Eid. But I think it’s still in a controlled position,” said Jokowi.

Furthermore, Jokowi also emphasized that the rate of increase in cases was still relatively under control. Jokowi then revealed his Covid-19 data.

“The figure is 20 per 100 thousand cases per week, and we are still at number 1. So it is still under control, but still, vigilance is important. Therefore I emphasize again the importance of boosters,” said Jokowi.

For information, the development of Covid-19 cases continues to experience an increasing trend in the country. In the last three weeks, Indonesia’s Covid-19 cases have jumped by 31%.

Based on data from the Covid-19 Handling Task Force, yesterday there were 556 new cases of Covid-19, up from the previous 520 new cases.

The spokesman for the Covid-19 Handling Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said that there had been an increase in active cases in the last four days as many as 328 cases.

“This is important to watch out for considering that for approximately 3 months in a row since the Omicron wave, we have managed to keep cases stable,” said Wiku in an official statement.

However, the increase in cases has not been followed by a trend of increasing bed occupancy rates (BOR) in hospitals. In addition, the trend of deaths due to Covid-19 also continues to decline.

The following is data for the five provinces with the highest contribution of active cases over the past week, namely the period from May 29 to July 5, 2022:

DKI Jakarta: from 923 to 1,204 cases
Banten: from 236 to 326 cases
West Java: from 443 to 524 cases
Special Region of Yogyakarta: from 118 to 172 cases
East Java: from 110 to 151 cases

Wiku said the highest increase in cases was still on the island of Java, which has the largest population in Indonesia. The increase in cases was triggered by community activities starting to return to normal.
