The realization of the cooperation between Indonesia and Tesla still seems to take much longer. This was conveyed directly by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). According to him, negotiating with Elon Musk is not easy.
Jokowi answered a question about the difficulty of negotiating with Tesla owner, Elon Musk, compared to relatively easy communication with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
This was stated by Jokowi at the Bloomberg CEO Forum at Sofitel Nusa Dua Bali, Friday (11/11/2022).
“Everything takes time, I don’t want to rush without any results. This requires intense communication and the results will be visible,” Jokowi said.
Will Elon Musk Only Invest in Electric Cars?
When asked about Tesla’s investment in Indonesia, Jokowi stated that this was still in the process of further discussions with Elon Musk.
“What we all want is an electric car. For Tesla, we want them to build their electric car in Indonesia. […] It’s still in the process of being discussed, let’s see,” he said.
Elon Musk himself will attend the B20 international forum at the G20 Summit which will be held in Bali on November 13-14.
Previously, in the middle of this year, Jokowi himself visited the Tesla factory at SpaceX Boca Chica, United States (US). On that occasion, Jokowi ‘seduced’ Tesla to invest in Indonesia.
“We had a lot of discussions, especially about how Tesla builds its industry from upstream to downstream, starting from the smelter, then building the cathode and precursor industry, building EV batteries, lithium batteries, then vehicle factories,” said Jokowi.
In early October 2022, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that Tesla’s investment in Indonesia was still in the negotiation process. Currently, the process is going well.
