Just 1 Minute to Change Electric Motor Battery in SPBKLU

Jokowi reviewed SPBKLU

The State Electricity Company (PLN) has launched the General Electric Vehicle Battery Exchange Station (SPBKLU) which was reviewed directly by President Jokowi. The presence of this battery exchange service makes it easier for electric motorcycle users to charge their vehicles.

The review was conducted at the Jakarta Convention Center, Senayan on Tuesday (11/10). The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment of Indonesia, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, the Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board, Bahlil Lahadalia, and the Director of PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo were also there.

Darmawan explained the presence of it makes electric motor users simply exchange their batteries to SPBKLU and no longer need to wait for an electric charge. This is a form of PLN’s support for the electric vehicle ecosystem.

“So the concept is very easy. Electric motor users just come to the SPBKLU, open the PLN Mobile application, then exchange the battery with one that is fully charged and ready to use. Only about 1 minute, via PLN Mobile you can immediately get a full battery,” he explained.

PLN targets the operation of 70 units of General Electric Vehicle Battery Exchange Stations (SPBKLU) this year. Until September 2022, PLN has already conducted operational trials of 16 SPBKLU units in Jakarta.

This SPBKLU is part of the collaboration between PLN – BRIN – Grab and Viar. In October, PLN will add 4 more SPBKLU units and 50 SPBKLU units in December.

“SPBKLU is an important infrastructure in encouraging the massive electric vehicle in Indonesia. Considering, to encourage the growth of electric vehicles, many are driven by two-wheeled vehicles. Plus, currently, the price of electric motorcycles is already competitive with oil-fueled motors,” he said.

In order to encourage the growth of SPBKLU, PLN has also prepared an SPBKLU franchise cooperation scheme. Prospective partners can act as providers of electric vehicle charging facilities, land and property providers, as well as providers of SPBKLU operations and maintenance.

In the SPBKLU franchise cooperation provided by PLN, potential partners can act as providers of electric vehicle charging facilities, providers of land and property, and providers of SPBKLU operations and maintenance.

“One of the partnership schemes offered by PLN is a franchise, where partners do not need to be bothered with licensing, equipment provision, maintenance, and supporting applications in the electric vehicle recharging infrastructure,” said Darmawan.

Darmawan hopes that the increasing number of SPBKLU can support the development of an electric vehicle ecosystem to accelerate the clean energy transition in the country.

In terms of emissions, continued Darmawan, the transportation sector contributes 280 million tons of CO2e per year. This is one of the highest contributors to carbon emissions and the burden of subsidies in Indonesia. If left without intervention, by 2060 it will be 860 million tons of CO2e.

Darmawan said the use of electric vehicles is more environmentally friendly than fuel vehicles. From the calculation, 1 liter of fuel is equal to 1.2 kWh of electricity.

The carbon emission of 1 liter of fuel is 2.4 kilograms. While 1 kWh of electricity is in the electricity system in Indonesia, the emission is only about 0.85 kg CO2e. This figure means that if 1.2 kWh, the emission is about 1.1 kg of CO2e.
