Indonesia’s digital transactions show significant growth. This rapid growth is due to the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) feature that makes it easy for merchants.

Bank Indonesia (BI) reports that currently many merchants or merchants have started making transactions through digital payments. This is reflected in the growth of transactions through QRIS.

Director of the BI Payment System Policy Department Fitria Irmi Triswati explained that the trend of QRIS transaction volume until August 2022 was increasing, both in terms of volume and merchants integrated with QRIS.

“The volume of QRIS transactions on August 22 reached 91.73 million or Rp. 9.66 trillion. QRIS acceptances continued to increase. Transaction volume continued to increase, reaching 18.4% (year on year/YoY) and 13% (month to month/month),” explained Fitria in Bali last weekend, quoted on Monday (3/10/2022).

Fitria explained, the number of new QRIS users until August 2022 grew by 14.6% compared to July 2022 (mtm). As of August, the number of new QRIS users reached 12 million users.

“A significant addition in August, there was an additional 1.55 million,” She said.

Based on the distribution, the largest addition of users is in Java and Sumatra.

“In detail, Java, the total new users in 2022 will reach 12.17 million, with details in Java 8.1 million, Sumatra 2.4 million, Silampua at 592,583, Kalimantan 614,038, Bali Nusa Tenggara (Bali Nusra) 403,418,” Fitria explained.

As previously reported, The digital transaction systems in traditional markets and shopping centers in DKI Jakarta continue to grow and reach 3.9 million merchants. This figure shows that digitalization has penetrated almost all aspects of life in Indonesia.

This figure, according to the Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), Juda Agung in his statement in Jakarta, Sunday, October 2, 2022, contributes to 18 percent of the total national traders who have used the “Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard” (QRIS) in their payment system.

Juda said economic and financial digitization is growing fast with the QRIS Healthy, Innovative, Safe and Use (SIAP) Program. This program can encourage the domestic economy by increasing consumption and strengthening MSMEs, including in Jakarta.

The SIAP QRIS program is the result of a collaboration between the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) and BI which was launched in markets and shopping centers. This program has succeeded in supporting the expansion of digital transaction acceptance in DKI Jakarta.
