Reporting from the Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center (BPPTKG), Mount Merapi, which is located on the border of the Special Region of Yogyakarta and Central Java, emitted incandescent lava six times on Friday, January 14, 2022.
According to reports circulating, the incandescent lava slid with a maximum distance of 2,000 meters (2 kilometers) to the southwest from 00.00 to 06.00 WIB.
On Friday morning, the low-pressure crater smoke was visible in white with moderate intensity with a height ranging from 25-50 meters above the top of the crater.
According to the Head of BPPTKG, Hanik Humaida, during the observation period Mount Merapi also experienced 32 avalanches with an amplitude of 3-23 millimeters for 22.6-177.8 seconds, and one distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 6 millimeters for 44.1 seconds.
The lava fall is estimated to be heading towards the southeast and southwest with a maximum distance of five kilometers to the Gendol, Kuning, Boyong, Bedog, Krasak, Bebeng, and Putih rivers.
The Center for Research and Development of Geological Disaster Technology (BPPTKG) also explained that Mount Merapi was very active this week.
Mount Semeru has recorded 116 lava avalanches. Even though it is not dangerous, the public is expected to remain vigilant to maintain safety and be updated with developing information.
