Free to Take Off Masks, National Covid-19 Transmission Is Still Fluctuating

A week ago, the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, familiarly called Jokowi, officially allowed the public to be able to remove masks in outdoor area. Jokowi’s policy is motivated by the downward trend in cases of Covid-19 transmission in Indonesia.

So, after a week of taking the mask off, how will it affect the transmission of Covid-19 in Indonesia? Here is the national pandemic news.

Based on data from the Covid-19 Task Force, after a week of easing the mask policy, the trend of positive cases of Covid-19 within a week (17-22 May 2022) at the national level looks to fluctuate with details of 247, 327, 318, 250, 263, and 227 so that the accumulation of positive cases in a week amounted to 1,632 cases.

Meanwhile, in the previous week or 11-16 May 2022, the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases was 1,517 cases. However, in the past week (17-22 May 2022), the number of daily Covid-19 cases rose to 1,632 cases.

A similar increase occurred in cases of death. During the period 11-16 May 2022, the number of deaths was 48 people. However, in the period 17-22 May, Covid-19 death cases rose by 10 cases to 58 people with details of 17, 17, 12, 3, 6, and 3 cases.

Furthermore, cases of recovery actually showed a downward trend within a week with details of 1,029, 364, 384, 298, 254, and 285, bringing the total to 2,614 cases of recovery.

Furthermore, the Covid-19 Handling Task Force also reported that the addition of positive confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Jakarta in the past week reached 563 cases, with the highest case occurring on Wednesday (18/5/2022) with 113 confirmed cases.

The details are 75 cases on 17 May, 113 cases on 18 May, 90 cases on 19 May, 82 cases on 20 May, 93 cases on 21 May, and 22 May 2022 as many as 110 cases so that the accumulation reaches 563 cases.

With this addition, the total positive cases in Jakarta reached 1,249,742 cases on May 22, 2022.

For information, this mask easing policy does not necessarily apply to everyone and all conditions. Activities in closed rooms and on public transportation are still required to wear masks.

Then people who are in the vulnerable category such as the elderly and residents who have comorbid or comorbid diseases, as well as people who experience symptoms of colds and coughs are encouraged to continue to wear masks.
