Odd-Even Rule Applies Again in Jakarta

Jakarta's traffic

After the odd-even rule did not apply during yesterday’s national holiday, this time the Metro Jaya Regional Police again enforced the odd-even rule on 13 DKI Jakarta roads.

According to the plan, the odd-even rule will apply from Monday to Friday from 06.00-10.00 WIB in the morning and 16.00-21.00 WIB in the afternoon. Meanwhile, This restriction does not apply on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays.

“Together with the end of the national public holiday, tomorrow odd-even in the city will start as usual,” said Director of Traffic and Traffic of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Sambodo Purnomo Yogo in his statement, quoted on Monday (9/5/2022).

Previously, this rule did not apply during the Eid holidays and joint leave for the past week. Odd-even Jakarta will be abolished from April 29 to May 8, 2022.

The following is a list of 13 roads that apply the odd-even system:

Fatmawati Street from Simpang – Cucumber Street to TB Simatupang Street

Tomang Raya Street

Jenderal S Parman Street

MT Haryono street

HR Rasuna Said street

Furthermore, Sambodo urges all road users to pay more attention to their travel management to avoid congestion and violations of related mobility restrictions.

Odd-even system explanation

For information, Deputy Director of Traffic at Polda Metro Jaya AKBP Wahyono explained, that the even-odd system technique is a vehicle restriction concept that refers to the last two numbers of the vehicle’s license plate.

That way, later every passing vehicle will take turns according to the day the last two digits of the number plate are applied.

“For example, Monday is for the even digits, then Tuesday is for the odd digits, and so on. The determination of even and odd numbers is determined from the two numbers at the back of the license plate. For example, my car plate is B 3412 VII, which means it is even. Or for example B 2533 SFA, now that’s it. means odd because the two numbers behind it are 33,” explained Wahyono

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government with the Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya implement this odd-even rule as a breakthrough to break down the density of vehicle volumes on the Jakarta Capital Road.
