Dirlantas Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Sambodo Purnomo Yogo stated that he would impose car free nights and crowd free nights on Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin and Banjir Kanal Timur (BKT) on New Year’s Eve 2021, Thursday (31/12).
This step was taken to prevent crowds or the potential for large crowds to gather in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic ahead of New Year’s Eve.
“Car free night and crowd free night will be held on two main roads in Sudirman-Thamrin, plus the East Flood Canal,” Sambodo said at Polda Metro Jaya, Wednesday (30/12).
Sambodo explained car free night means that vehicles are prohibited from traversing the roads in the area. Meanwhile, crowd free night means that pedestrians, cyclists, and so on, cannot pass the road.
“We really will carry out sterilization on Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin and Jalan BKT,” he said.
He explained that the implementation of car free night and crowd free night will be held from 20.00 WIB to 03.00 WIB.
The implementation, he said, was the result of a coordination meeting between Polda Metro Jaya, Kodam Jaya and Pemprov DKI Jakarta.
“For other places that usually have been known crowding at the night of the New Year, we will control tightly as large-scale patrols that will disperse the crowd,” Sambodo said.
