PPKM Is Likely to Be Discontinued at the End of 2022

PPKM
the Imposition of Restrictions on Community Activities or PPKM

Along with the slowing down of the Covid-19 cases in Indonesia, as well as a good post-pandemic recovery, President Jokowi plans to end the Imposition of Restrictions on Community Activities or the PPKM at the end of 2022.

“Yesterday our daily cases were at 1200, and maybe at the end of the year we will declare a stop to our PSBB and PPKM,” said Jokowi at the 2023 Indonesian Economic Outlook event, at the Ritz Carlton Ball Room, Mega Kuningan, Jakarta, Wednesday (21/12/ 2022).

Jokowi said Indonesia’s struggle in dealing with Covid-19 was extraordinary. Especially when the Delta variant appears in mid-2021.

“We remember that at that time there was no PPE, no oxygen, and patients piled up in the hospital, fortunately, we were still calm. We weren’t nervous, we weren’t nervous, so this very difficult situation could be managed properly,” said Jokowi.

It is known that additional cases in Indonesia in the last week (14-20 December) reached 9,571, a drastic decrease compared to the previous week which still reached 26,496.

However, the Government has again extended the implementation of restrictions on community activities (PPKM) until January 9, 2023. This step is in anticipation of curbing the rate of increase in COVID-19, especially ahead of the 2022 Christmas and 2023 New Year (Nataru) holidays.

The latest PPKM regulations are contained in the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 50 of 2022 for the Extension of the PPKM for the Java and Bali Region and the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 51 of 2022 for the Extension of the PPKM for the Areas Outside Java and Bali.

As previously reported, The Covid-19 pandemic is getting under control. The trend of cases also shows a decline. Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati even said that 2022 would be the last year of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Because this is the third year and we hope that this will be the last year for Indonesia and the world to face a pandemic,” she said in a press conference on APBN Kita, Tuesday (20/12/2022).

The same thing is happening at the global level, even though China is currently recording an increasing trend of Covid-19 cases, in line with the opening up of community activities in that country.

Sri Mulyani said Indonesia was in a relatively good situation in terms of the number of cases and the increase in vaccinations.

Sri Mulyani said the government would continue to be aware of the increase in Covid-19 cases in line with increased community activity during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
