Indonesia is poised for a change in leadership as the General Election Commission (KPU) officially announces the president-elect and vice president-elect after the conclusion of the 2024 Presidential Election. The chosen duo, Prabowo-Gibran, are set to take the helm of the nation’s governance, marking a significant transition in the country’s political landscape.

The formal declaration, encapsulated in document number 252/PL.01.9-BA-05/2024, solidifies the selection of Prabowo and Gibran as the elected leaders for the upcoming term, spanning from 2024 to 2029. This momentous occasion was marked by a reading of the decision by KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy’ari during a public plenary session at the KPU headquarters in Jakarta.

“Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka have been designated as the president and vice president for the period of 2024 to 2029,” affirmed Hasyim during the announcement, underscoring the commission’s decision.

Following the formalities, both Prabowo and Gibran endorsed the official documentation, signifying their acceptance of the elected positions.

Moreover, the Prabowo-Gibran ticket secured victory in the 2024 Presidential Election with an impressive tally of 96,214,691 votes, constituting 58.6 percent of the total valid national votes. Their closest contenders, Anies-Muhaimin, garnered 40,971,906 votes (24.9 percent), while Ganjar-Mahfud trailed with 27,040,878 votes (16.5 percent).

The public plenary session witnessed the presence of key stakeholders, including the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), the Honorary Council of Election Organizers (DKPP), and representatives from various political parties participating in the election.

The confirmation of the president-elect and vice president-elect came on the heels of a pivotal ruling by the Constitutional Court (MK), which dismissed the dispute over the election results filed by Anies-Muhaimin and Ganjar-Mahfud.

The lawsuit aimed to challenge the validity of the vote count conducted by the KPU on March 20, 2024, and sought the disqualification of Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka from the presidential race.

After thorough deliberation, the Constitutional Court upheld the integrity of the election process, rejecting all petitions submitted by Candidate Pairs Number 01 and 03.

In light of the court’s decision, the KPU proceeded with the formal appointment of the president-elect and vice president-elect, paving the way for Prabowo-Gibran to assume office on October 20, 2024. Their tenure is slated to extend until 2029, marking a new chapter in Indonesia’s political journey.
