Besides speeding up the new capital city (IKN) construction, the government is also lobbying various countries to cooperate. This time, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is offering cooperation in the IKN Nusantara project to Brunei Darussalam.

This was carried out in line with the visit of the Young Pengiran Abdul Qawi from Brunei Darussalam at the PUPR Campus, Thursday (24/11/2022) yesterday.

The meeting discussed the potential for cooperation between Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam in the infrastructure sector.

Secretary-General Zainal Fatah representing PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said the government would open up opportunities for cooperation for Brunei Darussalam in various infrastructure sectors through the Government Business Entity Cooperation (PPP) scheme, both for solicited (government initiated) and unsolicited (not initiated by the government) PPP projects.

Zainal emphasized that all forms of cooperation in the IKN development project will prioritize new technological innovations, especially to support environmental sustainability.

“Now we are building the IKN in Kalimantan. We are very open to receiving investors from Brunei Darussalam to support the development of the IKN. Now we are preparing basic infrastructure which is targeted to be completed in Semester I of 2023,” said Zainal in an official statement, Friday (25/11 /2022).

On this occasion, Zainal also offered infrastructure projects that have large investment potential through the PPP scheme, such as 14 projects in preparation worth IDR 130 trillion (Spuur Karawang vertical residential development).

In addition, 16 projects are entering the transaction stage worth IDR 201.68 trillion, including the provision of infrastructure for the Bintang Bano Dam Mini Hydro Power Plant (PLTM) in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and Regional SPAM Ir. H Juanda.

Zainal Fatah hopes that today’s meeting and forum can strengthen the bilateral cooperation that has been well-established between Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, to realize the hopes of both countries for infrastructure development in Indonesia.

“In the future, we can communicate more intensively with the Ambassador about what we might be able to do together. We will encourage and we will try to provide a better ecosystem for investment,” he said.

For information, the PUPR Ministry has started the construction of basic infrastructure at the IKN since early September 2022, including the construction of toll roads and national roads, supply of raw water, houses for IKN construction workers, and preparation of ready-to-build land (land development).

PUPR Minister Basuki recently also held a bilateral meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister for International Trade of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nina Vasan Lahti to discuss the development of IKN in the field of wastewater management and smart cities.
