Road to G20: Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, Will Rely on PLTS as a Source of Electrical Energy

In an effort to change energy to green energy, the government continues to encourage the use of solar power plants (PLTS) for several small islands in the Labuan Bajo area, East Nusa Tenggara. Later, this step will be exhibited at the G20 presidency forum.

This was confirmed by the Head of the Joint Secretariat for the Sherpa Track and Finance Track, Susiwijono Moegiarso. he revealed, Labuan Bajo became one of the locations for holding various G20 Presidency events.

“This is a very good real example for us to show at the G20 Presidency forum in Labuan Bajo,” explained Susiwijono, Tuesday (1/3).

He explained that the presence of PLTS is not only a form of government efforts to support the transformation of green energy, but also to support the local economy. PLTS is very beneficial for residents who are in isolated areas and can help their lives.

Furthermore, PT PLN (Persero) is committed to supplying environmentally friendly electricity to support the entire series of activities of the G20 Indonesia 2022 Presidency, not only for holding a series of G20 meetings but also as a show-case to support the main meeting, to show the world that electricity is environmentally friendly. has been present on small islands in supporting the lives of remote communities.

The company’s commitment to encouraging the use of new and renewable energy (EBT) is not only by transitioning energy to large power plants but also by building environmentally friendly power plants in remote locations to replace the use of diesel-fueled generators used by the community.

The Company utilizes PLTS on small islands in the area around Labuan Bajo, such as PLTS on Messah Island and PLTS on Papagarang Island. In the past, people on Messah Island and Papagarang Island relied on generators to provide electricity. Joint venture residents paid a rent of Rp. 10,000 per day which was distributed through a cable network from house to house.

Recently, this PLTS can already be enjoyed by residents, as explained by the General Manager of the PLN Regional Main Unit for NTT Agustinus Jatmiko

He added that currently the total power capacity of Labuan Bajo’s electricity in the Flores Electricity System is 98 megawatts with an estimated peak load during the G20 Presidency of 80 megawatts and has reserves of 18 megawatts.

“Currently, the new renewable energy mix in Flores has reached 15.24 percent. The new renewable energy plants in East Nusa Tenggara already use energy sources from geothermal, hydro, and solar,” explained Agustinus.

Meanwhile, there are about eight G20 activities that will be held here, including the 2nd Sherpa Meeting and several Working Group level meetings (Tourism, Supreme Audit, Energy Transition, Digital Economy, Trade-Investment-Industry).

The series of activities in the G20 Indonesia 2022 Presidency, consists of 184 main agenda activities (Summit, Ministerial Meeting, Central Bank Governor, Sherpa/Deputies, Working Group, and Engagement Group), and around 254 side-events and Road to G20 held around 25 locations throughout Indonesia.
