Based on a study released by the Universities of Oxford and Columbia last February, globally, SOEs (BUMN) are responsible for at least 7.49 gigatons of carbon dioxide each year. Therefore, they are considered to have a major contribution to achieving Net Zero Emission (NZE) in 2060.

The responsibility and opportunity for SOEs for this purpose lies in the energy transition from the use of fossil energy to the use of green energy.

The energy transition can be carried out by various sectors through various initiatives such as power generation and new and renewable energy (EBT), transportation with environmentally friendly fuels, to industry to switch to efficient energy and resources.

Realizing this role, the Ministry of SOEs through SOEs also encourages decarbonization aspirations on the three pillars of the initiative. These include reducing end-to-end emissions, building efficient businesses, and exploring opportunities.

SOE Minister Erick Thohir revealed that as many as seven SOEs recently completed a joint carbon base exercise as the first step in accelerating the decarbonization journey.

“SOEs with their public service mandates must lead the green economy transformation ahead of private companies. As such, they need to urgently change their business models while ensuring a fair transition to avoiding unnecessary finances through abandoned assets and social risks through the provision of safe jobs or training. repeat,” explained Erick.

Deputy Minister of SOEs I Pahala N. Mansury also said that the various initiatives that have been carried out by SOEs are in line with the decarbonization program of the Ministry of SOEs and support achieving NZE by 2060.

“End-to-end ways to use energy efficiency are migrating high enough energy use to low emissions, such as the conversion of initiatives from PLTD to EBT as an initiative that is expected to be implemented in 2022,” said Pahala.

He also emphasized that SOEs have a vital role in reducing emissions to lead to a better life.

Furthermore, as a state-owned company, Pertamina Group, both holding and sub-holding, has determined NZE’s commitment to realize its aspirations as an environmentally friendly Global Energy Company, support the energy transition agenda, and contribute to climate change targets.

Pj. Vice President of Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero), Heppy Wulansari, said that Pertamina’s NZE commitment was realized by developing and compiling Pertamina’s NZE roadmap which included a business decarbonization strategy and new business development based on clean and green energy.

In fact, this commitment will be delivered directly by Pertamina at the 2022 SOE International Conference which will take place from 18-19 October 2022, in Nusa Dua Bali.

“Pertamina Group has worked on various projects as a form of commitment to accelerate the energy transition. We will present these projects at the SOE event,” he explained.
