State Electricity Company’s Electrification Ratio Reaches 97.4%

Almost all parts of Indonesia have received electricity supply from the State Electricity Company (PLN). President Director of PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo, said this is evident from the electrification ratio of PLN which continued to grow to 97.4% until Semester I 2022.

“Currently, the State Electricity Company’s biggest challenge is to increase the electrification ratio in Eastern Indonesia and the leading, outermost and disadvantaged (3T) areas, where we are committed to continuously increasing this electrification ratio so that all Indonesians can feel the light 24 hours a day,” said Darmawan. in a written statement, Friday (10/28/2022).

One of the efforts to increase the electrification ratio is through the Village Electricity program. This step is considered an acceleration step so that people can enjoy electricity quickly.

Currently, the national ratio of electrified villages reaches 99.73% with a total of 83,202 villages having access to electricity.

Not only electrifying the entire country, Darmawan emphasized that PLN’s contribution to boosting economic growth is also very important. This is manifested by electricity consumption growth until September 2022 reaching 7.46% with total electricity sales of 201.78 Terawatt hour (TWh), compared to September 2021 reaching 187.8 TWh.

“Electricity is the heart of Indonesia’s economic growth. The presence of electricity can encourage the economy of the community, industry, and the business sector,” he added.

Meanwhile, electricity consumption growth in the business sector was 35.5 GWh until September 2022, an increase of 13.82% compared to September 2021 at 31.06 GWh. In addition, electricity consumption in the industrial sector, as of September 2022, was recorded at 66.32 GWh, an increase of 13.15% compared to September 2021 which was 58.66 GWh.

Darmawan emphasized that PLN will continue to contribute through programs that directly touch the improvement of the community’s economy, such as Electrifying Agriculture, Electrifying Marine, and also Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programs that can encourage the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

“The Electrifying Agriculture program is a big leap for the agriculture sector in Indonesia. The program initiated by PLN has proven to have brought the agriculture, fishery, plantation, and livestock sectors to be more advanced and modern so that it has an impact on improving the community’s economy,” he concluded.

Furthermore, PLN is also aggressively building new and renewable energy-based power plants to accelerate the energy transition in Indonesia.

As of September 2022, PLN has successfully operated an EBT plant with a total capacity of 8.5 gigawatts (GW). PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the capacity of the EBT power plant managed by PLN would continue to increase.

By 2030, the total environmentally friendly power generation capacity is targeted to reach 28.9 GW. To achieve this target, according to the Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) 2021 – 2030, PLN will increase the capacity of EBT by 20.9 GW.

“The portion of NRE development reached 51.6 percent in this green RUPTL. This proves our commitment to carrying out the energy transition for a better life on earth,” said Darmawan.
