Jokowi met with SpaceX owner Elon Musk to discuss some collaborations in the technology sector. To support this plan, the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII) is ready to support the cooperation plan.
They will support the Jokowi-Elon Musk collaboration by providing a fast and quality internet network.
Chairman of APJII, Muhamad Arif, said that the Indonesian government has a lot of potential for cooperation with the Tesla and SpaceX boss.
For Tesla, he assessed that the car was not just an electric vehicle, but also a car with artificial intelligence (AI) and automation technology. Thus, the latest internet technology is needed to operate optimally.
“APJII is ready to work hand in hand with the government to provide the best quality internet network so that Tesla’s technology can be optimized,” said Arif, Tuesday (17/5/2022).
In addition, he continued, as well as SpaceX, which Elon most likely will put one of its launch stations here. APJII is ready to help prepare the infrastructure.
According to him, there are two things that Elon Musk can give to support the acceleration of connectivity in the country, namely technology, and capital.
Tesla and SpaceX, continued Arif, have the most advanced technology on earth. If they cooperate with Indonesia, there will be a transfer of value and technological knowledge.
“This will help our connectivity be more effective and efficient. The second, of course, is with capital. The more capital from Elon comes in, the bigger the technology infrastructure that we will build,” he added.
Previously, Arif also said that the Indonesian government could establish cooperation in the field of research and development for semiconductor products with Elon Musk.
The potential for cooperation that can be done is in the field of research and development for semiconductor products which are the main ingredients in the network device manufacturing industry and mobile phones, tablets, and computers.
“That way, a strategic partnership will be established in building the independence of the national information and communication technology [ICT] equipment industry,” said Arif.
As previously reported, President Jokowi finally met with SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk. The meeting took place at the SpaceX factory located in Boca Chica, United States, Saturday (14/5/2022).
Jokowi said that this visit was a follow-up to his order to the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan to speak directly with Elon Musk about investment, technology, and innovation.
