The government’s move to switch analog TV broadcasts to digital TV continues. This time, the government will immediately turn off analog TV broadcasts in the DKI Jakarta area on August 25.
DKI Jakarta Regional Secretary, Marullah Matali said that his party supports the migration to digital television.
According to him, the regional government of DKI Jakarta fully supports migration. Moreover, the government has stepped down to directly assist the migration from analog to digital TV.
On this occasion, Marullah explained that the number of poor households was 123,888. As for the free set-top-box (STB), only 50,059 units were given and this does not include residents in the Thousand Islands.
For information, in the Analog Switch Off (ASO) program, free STB will be given to Indonesian people who belong to the poor.
“Not including residents in the Thousand Islands, there are 30 thousand residents who do not enter 50,059 households. Not complaining, thank you for contributing 40 percent,” said Marullah.
Marullah hopes that this inequality can be expanded, including those in the Thousand Islands region.
He further emphasized the success of the migration to digital television broadcasting to accelerate digital transformation, especially in Jakarta. According to him, Jakarta is also actively carrying out digital transformation.
“Successful migration can accelerate digital transformation in Indonesia, especially in Jakarta. Now, digital transformation is being intensively carried out,” he said.
The implementation of the Analog Switch Off itself will end on November 2, 2022. The rules related to the program are contained in Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation and Government Regulation Number 46 of 2021 concerning Post, Telecommunications, and Broadcasting (Postelsiar).
Previously, the first phase of Analog switch-off (ASO) was carried out on April 30 covering 56 broadcast service areas. According to the Director of Media Management at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (Kominfo) Nursodik Gunarjo, the first phase of ASO is not felt too much.
“Because a lot of it is done in areas with a small population,” he said online at the second phase of ASO socialization, Friday, August 19, 2022.
This condition is different from the second stage on August 25, as in West Java which covers many areas. “In the next five days, you will no longer be able to get television broadcasts that you normally watch without a set-top box or television that supports digital broadcasting,” said Nursodik. According to him, residents do not need to replace analog television, but simply buy a set-top box or decoder to capture digital television broadcasts.
The implementation of ASO said Nursodik, cutting the number of frequencies used. The use of analog television broadcasts uses 328 megahertz. While digital television broadcasts only use 176 megahertz.
“The remaining 112 megahertz frequency can be used to improve Indonesia’s Internet capabilities, including 5G,” he said.
