The Ministry of Transportation Has Begun to Reconstruct the Donggala Port after Disaster

Several ports located in Palu Bay, Central Sulawesi will soon receive rehabilitation and reconstruction after the tsunami and earthquake disasters. This is confirmed by the Directorate General of Sea Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation. One of the ports in question is Donggala Port.

The rehabilitation and reconstruction of Donggala Port began with the signing of the Package Civil Works (CW) Sea Port 1: Works for Reconstruction of Donggala Port Contract between the Ministry of Transportation and PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk. on Friday (11/2/2022) at the Head Office of the Directorate General of Sea Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation.

The contract signing was carried out by the Commitment Making Officer (PPK) for the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Port Facilities in Pantoloan, Donggala, and Wani Port Fandhika Putera Santoso and the General Manager Of Operation Department 4 PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk., Hernowo Adrianto.

Thus, The signing was witnessed by Plt. Director-General of Sea Transportation, Director of Ports, Director of PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk., and officials within the Directorate General of Sea Transportation.

Acting Director-General of Sea Transportation, Arif Toha, said that the signing of this contract was one of the agenda for fulfilling the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Program which was the beginning of the Donggala Terminal construction work process.

“We hope that the signing of this work contract will be the beginning of a good and beneficial improvement for the improvement of the Indonesian economy,” Arif said through a press release, quoted on Saturday (12/2/2022).

Arif explained that the signing of this contract could provide a commitment between agencies or stakeholders to be able to carry out work as optimally as possible to restore the function of infrastructure affected by disasters in Central Sulawesi Province.

Meanwhile, the Donggala Terminal as a collecting port (PP) is an economic gateway and supports the economy in the hinterland areas of Donggala Regency and Central Sulawesi. Currently, Donggala Terminal is still operating actively and serving community logistics.

The Donggala Terminal will be more focused on the multipurpose cargo service market with a capacity of 170,000 tons per year, dry bulk cargo services, and services for passenger ships, including PELNI, sea highways, and pioneers.

“Services after the earthquake and tsunami disaster in 2018 were quite limited for port operations, so it is the government’s task to restore existing service functions,” said Arif.

In addition, the plan to relocate the State Capital (IKN) is also a strategic issue at the Donggala Terminal to support the increase in the dry bulk cargo market at the Donggala Terminal as a dry bulk material producing area and the location is close to the IKN location.

“With the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Donggala Terminal, it is hoped that it will optimize and improve public services that support the regional economy,” he said.
