The Peak of Christmas Holiday Traffic to Happen Today

Christians will celebrate Christmas in two days. It is predicted to cause heavy traffic flow. Jasa Marga estimates that the peak homecoming for Christmas 2022 will occur today, Friday, December 23, 2022.

Main Director of Jasa Marga (JSMR), Subakti Syukur, said that traffic flow is predicted to occur at 4 main gates with a distribution of 47 percent to the east of Java Island, 30.6 percent to the west of Java Island, and 22.5 percent to the south. Java Island.

“Predictions at the 4 main gates will reach 2.73 million vehicles, up 2.6 percent compared to Christmas and New Year (Nataru) 2021 of 2.6 million and also against normal [conditions] that we took last June 8.4 percent, normally 2.5 million,” said Surbakti in Jakarta, Monday (12/12/2022).

Sukti added that his party had prepared some strategies to unravel congestion on the Nataru toll road, including a traffic engineering plan at the discretion of the Police to deal with congestion at a location of particular concern, namely the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road.

Jasa Marga will also functionally operate the addition of 1 lane towards Cikampek and 1 lane towards Jakarta on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road at KM 50-KM 66 with a length of 16 km and prepare the functional operation of the South Jakarta-Cikampek II Toll Road (Sadang-Kutanegara) throughout 8.5km.

Meanwhile, until D-4 Christmas 2022, Jasa Marga recorded that 600,394 vehicles had left the Greater Jakarta area.

Jasa Marga also predicts that as many as 2.73 million vehicles will leave the Greater Jakarta area during the Nataru holiday. That number is predicted to increase by 8.4 percent when compared to the normal period traffic volume.

Jasa Marga’s Corporate Communication & Community Development Group Head, Lisye Octaviana said the figure is the cumulative number of traffic flows from the four main toll gates (GT), namely Cikupa GT, Ciawi GT, and Cikampek Utama GT, and Kalihurip Utama GT.

Lisye explained that the total volume of traffic leaving the Jabotabek area increased by 13.27 percent compared to the normal traffic for the June 2022 period with a total of 530,042 vehicles. However, this number was recorded to be 2.54 percent lower compared to the Nataru 2021 period of 616,064.
