The US Discusses Plans to Pass Vaccine Passports for Foreign Tourists

United States

The United States government plans to require foreign tourists who wish to visit legally to be vaccinated in two doses. This step is a prerequisite for lifting travel restrictions that have been in place since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This is part of a plan to reopen travel around the world, including a phased approach that will be meaningful over time,” a US administration official said.

“Under this approach, foreigners who travel to the United States need to be fully vaccinated (two doses),” the statement added.

The new system needs to be implemented before the White House decides to lift the travel restrictions imposed in March 2020.

However, not only proof of two-dose vaccination, the arriving travelers must show proof of a negative Covid-19 test for no more than three days.

This plan is still under discussion. There is speculation that only three vaccines approved by US regulators will qualify. Currently, US regulators allow emergency use of Covid-19 vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson.
