Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Panjaitan claimed the world’s largest petrochemical plant will be built in Indonesia. The plan is that the factory will be located in the green industrial area of North Kalimantan.
According to him, the Integrated Green Industrial Park spans an area of 32,000 hectares and requires an investment of US$132 billion until 2029.
“So the number is very large and we will have the largest petrochemical in the world,” he told reporters in Jakarta, Thursday (17/3).
He said that the green industry will later produce various needs that are still imported, such as paracetamol and other medicinal raw materials.
“We all have whatever is needed for this production. In the past, we imported raw materials too often, and now we study it after Covid-19,” he said.
Luhut also opened up about the large dependence on imports of Indonesian medicines before Covid-19. At that time about 90 percent of raw materials for drugs were imported. Currently, he continued, imports of drugs such as paracetamol have been reduced by more than 40 percent.
“Now we have and reduce imports per day by approximately 40 percent,” he concluded.
Furthermore, the National Capital City (IKN) of the Archipelago together with Balikpapan and Samarinda will become economic superhubs in eastern Indonesia. Later there will be 6 economic clusters that will be developed.
