This First Generation iPhone Sold for US $ 39,000!

iPhone 1st Generation

iPhone recently launched its latest version, the iPhone 14 series. However, a first-generation iPhone that has never been opened and is still factory sealed (Brand New in Box) since 2007 is still in demand. This is after a collector was willing to pay more than US $ 39,000 or around Rp. 602 million to redeem it. Fantastic!

The smartphone initially retailed for US$599 in 2007 or US$852 in 2022 after inflation but quickly the price rose from the auction’s opening bid to US$2,500.

Bids reached around $10,446 just days before closing and stagnated. However, last-minute buyers competed fiercely as the deadline fell, raising the winning bid to over $39,000 in just 13 bids.

“We really expected an offer for this item and the results did not disappoint,” said LCG Auctions founder Mark Montero in a statement.

“We congratulate the winners, our shippers, and all bidders for making this one of the most active auctions in our history.”

The smartphone has a capacity of 8GB and was successfully sold at the LCG Auction on Sunday (16/10).

The phone, which was sold over the weekend, was advertised in excellent condition with a completely pristine back label under the plastic seal and no aftermarket sticker on the box.

“Collectors and investors will have a hard time finding a winning example. Relevance and rarity are the winning formulae for this red hot collection,” the auction listing reads.

For information, Steve Jobs first launched the original iPhone in 2007. Since then, all Apple products have sold millions of units.

In addition to 8GB of storage, this phone is also equipped with a 2-megapixel camera and is only equipped with a 2G network.

As a new technology at the time, it was certainly a fair price. However, the technology on these phones is very far when compared to the 2022 iPhones. For example, the recently released iPhone 14 model has 128GB of storage and features a 12-megapixel main camera with an ultra-wide lens.

However, of course, the collector did not redeem the iPhone to take advantage of its features.
