Tips for Safe Vacation to Avoid Covid-19

Long holiday is vulnerable to become a transmission of Covid-19. The experience of two previous long holiday followed by an increase in corona cases has become a big concern.

The government has reminded people to stay at home as much as possible during the long holidays from 28 October to 1 November 2020. However, this holiday can be a relieving fatigue and boredom due to activity restrictions during a pandemic.

Head of the Epidemiology Department of the University of Indonesia, Tri Yunis Miko Wahyono, gave tips on safe vacations from Covid-19 transmission.

1. Avoid saliva splashing

So far, the spread of the corona virus has occurred through droplet transmission, from droplets of saliva when talking. People should obey wearing mask and applying physical distancing and avoid crowds in order not to be exposed to Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the standard specification for masks is a mask with a protection effectiveness of at least 70 percent. Surgical masks have a protective effectiveness of 80-90 percent, while the N95 type is higher quality with 95 percent protective effectiveness.

2. Avoid crowds

Choose a tourist area that is not too crowded because it avoids the potential spread of the corona virus. In any situation in public places such as eating places, avoid crowds and adhere to the principle of keeping a distance of 2 meters.

3. Pay attention to the status of the vacation destination zone

It is better if the zoning status of the tourist location to be addressed in advance, whether the status is green, yellow, orange, or red. This status can be found by visiting the official Covid-19 website or asking directly at the local government office. It is recommended to choose entertainment locations in the green zone which are relatively safer.

4. Avoid closed spaces

After considering zoning, make sure the entertainment location is in an open area such as a beach or mountain excursion. Avoid vacationing in a closed room without good air circulation.

5. Make sure the body is healthy

Make sure your body is in good health before deciding to go on vacation. If the physical condition is not good, you should postpone the trip and it is better to find entertainment near home.

“The key is to avoid transmission through droplets. That’s why you have to wear a mask that protects your nose and mouth. Keep a distance so that when you talk, only a little droplet comes out. Keep each other apart so you don’t get infected. It is also important to wash your hands with soap,” Wahyono said in media center for the Covid-19 Handling Task Force in Graha BNPB Jakarta.
