Heart disease is generally known to attack the elderly. Nowadays, this disease, which is called the silent killer, attacks many people aged 40 and under. The risk of this disease is even higher in young people. What caused it?

The chairman of the West Java Indonesian Heart Foundation (YJI), Dr. H Komar Hanifi, conveyed the high risk of heart disease for young people. According to him, heart attacks that generally attack the elderly aged 50-60 years are now mostly attacking young people of productive age.

Komar said that the main cause of this disease is that young people don’t like exercise. They prefer to sit for a long time in front of the gadget.

The little physical activity carried out by these teenagers is also coupled with the wrong diet and nutrition. Instead of choosing healthy foods such as fruit and vegetables, teenagers now prefer instant food. This is what makes the accumulation of heart disease risk higher.

In addition, poor sleep patterns also affect the increased risk. Teenagers often spend the night playing games, scrolling through social media, or watching movies. Reduced sleep time certainly affects the quality of their sleep.

The next factor is smoking. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), as many as 16 million young Indonesians are active smokers. The magnitude of this figure is very worrying.

As is known, smoking can cause complications of chronic diseases, one of which is a heart attack.

According to Komar, the diseases caused by smoking are not direct. Gradually, more than 10 years later, new smokers will feel the arrival of the disease.

“Heart disease is one of the highest contributors to death rates in Indonesia. Even in West Java Province, 1.6 percent of its citizens have heart disease,” he explained.

Of these figures, continued Komar, state apparatus such as civil servants, military and police have the highest ranking of heart cases in Indonesia.

According to Komar, many factors cause state apparatus to have a risk of heart disease.

“Maybe stress factors, lifestyle, and lack of exercise, but this really needs to be studied again,” he said.

He appealed to the public to always maintain a healthy lifestyle by always doing regular exercise and consuming nutritious food.

On the other hand, Cardiologist and Vascular Specialist, Electrophysiological Intervention Subspecialist (arrhythmia consultant) at the Hematology Cardiovascular Center, dr. Sunu Budhi Raharjo, Sp. JP(K) said that arrhythmic disorders generally often go undetected. Even though this can be fatal and even end in sudden death.

According to him, the cause of arrhythmias is usually due to disorders of the heart valves, cardiomyopathy, and inflammation of the heart
