Train Passengers Are Increasingly “Explosive”, PT KAI Tightens Health Protocols

After several regulations related to domestic travel began to be relaxed by the government, it is observed that several modes of transportation began to be crowded with passengers. One of the modes of transportation that is currently being used by the public is the train.

Previously, PT KAI Commuter relaxed its policy by increasing its capacity from 45 percent to 60 percent. However, the capacity limit is still being socialized to passengers by sticking stickers on the seats, windows, and train floors.

“With this sticker, users are expected to follow it as a guide to their position when sitting or standing to maintain a safe distance from others,” explained VP Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter Anne Purba, Monday (14/3/2022).

Anne said that before the 60 percent capacity was implemented last week, Wednesday (9/3/2022), the average volume of KRL users reached 476,200 users per day. Meanwhile, since the enactment of the new rules according to the SE Kemenhub No. 25/2022, the volume of KRL users increased slightly.

“Meanwhile, on working days since the 60 percent capacity has been implemented, the volume of users has increased by 2.5 percent to an average of 488,392 per day,” he said.

The isolation of KRL service users at stations is also still being implemented to maintain a safe distance between KRL users, especially during peak hours. Anne said peak hours are still in the morning and evening, so the majority of KRL trips of 1,005 trips are at that time.

PT KAI’s Health Protocol Is Still Strictly Implemented

Although several regulations have been relaxed by the government, such as the non-compulsory of rapid antigen/PCR tests, PT KAI remains committed to continuing to strictly implement health protocols.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) VP Public Relations Joni Martinus explained that the health protocol provisions would still apply despite the easing, following the latest Circular (SE) from the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) last week.

In the railway mode, the easing of requirements and policies based on the SE of the Ministry of Transportation No.25/2022 concerning Guidelines for the Implementation of Domestic Travel by Train During the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Another easing of requirements is an increase in long-distance rail transport capacity from 80 percent to 100 percent.

“KAI made changes to the rules following the policies set by the government. KAI believes the government in implementing these policies has gone through various studies and KAI is consistent in complying with them,” said Joni, Monday (14/3/2022).

Regarding the anticipation of the spread of the virus during transportation, passengers who do not complete the requirements and customers who have been vaccinated but are positive for Covid-19 within the past 14 days are not allowed to travel and are welcome to cancel their tickets.

In addition, passengers are still required to wear masks, wash hands with soap in running water, maintain distance, stay away from crowds, reduce mobility, avoid eating together, and use hand sanitizer.

Then, passengers are still required to wear a three-layer cloth or medical mask that covers the nose and mouth; not allowed to speak on the phone or in-person in the carriage, and may not eat and drink for a journey of fewer than two hours except for medical purposes.
