Putin Discusses National Nuclear Industry Opportunities with Jokowi

After attending the G7 event in Germany, Indonesian President Joko Widodo arrived in Russia on Thursday (30/6) to meet Russian President, Vladimir Putin. Jokowi’s working visit aims to discuss several things, including the business and economic opportunities of the two countries.

Putin in the Kremlin’s official statement on its website, quoted Friday (1/7/2022) stated, “Today’s talks with Mr. Joko Widodo were conducted on a business basis and were quite substantive.”

Putin himself emphasized the issue of cooperation, including the economy. He even discussed his interest in developing the national nuclear power industry with Indonesia.

“With its unique experience, competence, and unrivaled technology, Rosatom State Corporation is willing to take part in joint projects, including projects related to the non-energy use of nuclear technology, for example, in medicine and agriculture,” he said.

In addition, he also mentioned the many potentials for business cooperation in the development of transportation and logistics infrastructure. For example, according to him, Russian Railways can take part in implementing Indonesia’s large-scale initiative to move the nation’s capital to the island of Borneo.

“Moscow, the capital of Russia, which has been developing at a very good pace and with great quality improvement, can also participate in this truly ambitious project,” he added.

Putin himself did say there are additional profitable opportunities if the two countries build economic partnerships and increase the number of commercial exchanges between the countries.

According to him, the focus on trade and economic cooperation between the two countries shows positive dynamics. In 2021, for example, bilateral trade grew by more than 40% and was up by more than 65% in the first five months of the year.

“In this context, both sides expressed their interest in enhancing the work of the Russian-Indonesian Joint Commission for Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation,” Putin explained.

As previously reported, the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, will again meet face-to-face with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, on 30 June. This news was conveyed by local Russian media, TASS.

For information, Indonesia is the president of this year’s G20 and has invited Russia to attend despite the controversy from the US and several Western countries.

“We will definitely go, but in what format will be decided later. The summit will take place on November 15-16, there is plenty of time, we’ll see,” said the source again.
