West Java Will Have a New Metropolitan City

Provincial Capital of West Java, Bandung

The people of West Java are debating the rumor about moving the provincial capital from Bandung to other areas. The move is in line with the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train (KCJB). However, the Governor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil, denied this.

He emphasized that the move was not the provincial capital, but the center of government which would be integrated with a new center of economic growth in the Tegalluar area, Bandung Regency.

This figure is only in the discourse stage because it needs to be studied more deeply and get approval from various parties.

“It’s not the relocation of the capital city, but the discourse on the unification of the central government. So don’t use the term capital city because it’s clearly different,” said Ridwan Kamil at Gedung Sate, Bandung City, Saturday (10/15/2022).

“Like Malaysia, the capital is still Kuala Lumpur, and the center of government is in Putrajaya,” he added.

If this is true, the city of Bandung will still be the capital of the province of West Java. Furthermore, there will be a new metropolis there.

At the same time, Ridwan Kamil will turn one of these 3 areas, namely Tegalluar, Walini, and Kertajati, into a new modern city that will coexist with Bandung, the capital city of West Java.

Referring to Ridwan Kamil’s statement, one of the 3 regions will be encouraged to become a center of economic growth. That way, it fits the status of the central government of the province of West Java.

In the discourse, Tegalluar is predicted to be the most potential location for relocating the new West Java government center.

“The potential of Tegalluar is good because the node is there. We want to go to Cisumdawu there, to Jakarta, the Cigatas Toll Road (Cileunyi-Garut-Tasikmalaya), the fast train is also there. So this area is very strategic. Al Jabbar Mosque is only five minutes away,” said Ridwan Kamil.

This village already has supporting infrastructure. Starting from the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train, the LRT line, the Ujungberung-Gedebage-Majalaya toll road, and the Cigatas toll road.

In the Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMD) document of Bandung Regency, Tegalluar is referred to as a fast-growing strategic area and has an impact on the economy of Bandung Regency.

“This determination is based on the economic potential of the region which will have a regional impact on the economy of the Bandung district, especially the eastern part with the development of strategic infrastructure in the area,” as written in the RPJMD document.

Previously, the issue of moving the provincial capital began with the story of the President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia China (KCIC) Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi after a review at the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train Station in Tegalluar, Bojongsoang, Bandung Regency.

According to Dwiyana, the West Java provincial government has even said that Tegalluar will be one of the locations of choice to become the new capital of West Java province.
