WHO: The End of Covid-19 Is in Sight

The World Health Organization (WHO) provides the latest update on the COVID-19 pandemic situation. According to WHO, the world is currently in the best position to deal with the transmission of the virus. They assess the end of Covid-19 can be seen now.

In his statement, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that the end of the pandemic was in sight but would not be over in the near future.

“We are not there yet. But the end is in sight. The world needs to step up for this opportunity,” he was quoted as saying by The Straits Times, Thursday (15/9/2022).

He then called for the world to continue to anticipate the surge in Covid-19 cases and remain vigilant. He even likens the current position of the world against Covid-19 to that of a marathon runner who is approaching the finish line.

“A marathon runner doesn’t stop when the finish line is in sight. He runs harder, with all the energy left. We must too. We can see the finish line. We are in a winning position. But now is the worst time to stop running.”

“If we don’t take this opportunity now, we run the risk of more variance, more deaths, more disruption, and more uncertainty,” he added.

This statement itself is the most optimistic assessment of the UN agency since declaring an international emergency in January 2020. Three months after that, the WHO then declared Covid-19 a pandemic.

Meanwhile, from within the country, the Government has again announced the addition of daily Covid-19 cases.

On Wednesday (14/9/2022) at 12.00 WIB, the number of Covid-19 cases increased by 2,799 in the last 24 hours. Thus, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia has reached 6,400,035, since the first case was announced by President Joko Widodo on March 2, 2020.

DKI Jakarta occupies the position with the addition of the most confirmed cases, namely 1,228 cases. Then, West Java had 484 cases, Banten 284 cases, East Java 267 cases, and Central Java 124 cases.

Meanwhile, active cases fell by 1,160 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 30,411 active cases.

The active cases are patients who are still confirmed positive for the coronavirus and are undergoing treatment in a hospital or self-isolation. This data refers to data published by the Covid-19 Task Force. The data can also be accessed by the public via the covid19.go.id website.

The same data shows, there is an increase in recovered cases. Within a day, the number increased by 3,938.

Then, as many as 21 Covid-19 patients died in the period 13-14 September 2022. This addition brought the total deaths from Covid-19 to 157,828 people.
